NHS physiotherapy phone service to get a workout

PEOPLE suffering from sprains, strains, muscle and joint problems will soon be able to benefit from physiotherapy advice over the phone.

NHS Lothian's physiotherapists are piloting a new physiotherapy telephone advice service for patients in north east Edinburgh from NHS 24's centre in South Queensferry.

Wendy Johnson, clinical specialist physiotherapist for NHS Lothian, said: "Giving people early access to physiotherapy advice means any problem can be dealt with early, thereby minimising its aggravation and severity, allows people to be involved in the management of their care and optimises their rehabilitation."

Lynn Douglas, AHP director, NHS Lothian, added: "This pilot is a first in Lothian and we hope that in time this service could be made available across Scotland."

The helpline, on 0845-606 1441, will run 4pm-7pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, and 8am-11am on Tuesdays.
