Missing teenager found but search continues for friend

A RELIEVED mother was re-united with her missing son last night.

However, the search is continuing for his teenage friend who also disappeared after the pair jumped from a first floor flat of a Glasgow house

Strathclyde Police launched a search yesterday for Reece Allen, 15, and Kelvin Conway, 19, who had not been seen since 7pm on Saturday. Both have learning difficulties, with mental ages of nine and 12 respectively.

Last night a spokesman for Strathclyde Police said Reece Allen had been found safe and well.

He said: "We received a call from a concierge in a block of flats in Glasgow who said a boy matching Reece's description was in the building.

"He has been found safe and well but the search continues for Kelvin Conway."

Last night Mr Conway's devastated mother spoke of her fear for her son. She said he had never behaved like this before and she was especially concerned because he was not dressed for the cold weather at the weekend.

The teenager had been spending the day with Reece, with whom he has been friends for several months, at a house in Morion Road, Knightswood, in Glasgow's west end.

Ms Conway said: "They had a brilliant day and were watching TV when Reece's dad went in to the room and they had jumped out the window. Kelvin has never shown any sign he was unhappy with anything or anybody.

"We thought maybe he was coming down to me in the Gorbals but he is like a wee satnav and he would have found his way here by now. I'm devastated and really worried especially with him being so vulnerable."

Strathclyde Police issued a public appeal for help finding the missing teenager as well as mobilising a ground and air search in the city.

Kelvin is described as 5ft 7ins in height, of stocky build, with black hair, brown eyes and an olive complexion. He was wearing red and black glasses, a navy pullover with a hood, blue denims and black slip-on shoes.

Inspector Derek Lang, from Drumchapel Police Office, said: "We are making extensive inquiries in a bid to trace Kelvin, speaking to friends and family, but so far we have been unable to trace him.

"It was a very cold night and we know that he does not have adequate clothing with him. Also he has no money and no mobile phones with him. Because of this we are becoming increasingly concerned for his safety and wellbeing.

He added: "I would appeal to Kelvin to contact either the police or a friend or relative to let us know that he is safe, and I would also urge anyone who knows of his whereabouts, or recognises his description, to contact police.

"I would ask members of the public not to assume that someone else has passed the information to the police."
