Mela searches for new home in bid to grow
THE Mela, Scotland's biggest multicultural celebration, is searching for a new home after concerns over its use of Pilrig Park.
The event has attracted more than 40,000 people to the park in previous years, but there are understood to be concerns about the state of the park, limitations on its use and parking problems.
Now new sites, including Inverleith Park and Leith Links, are being considered.
The Meadows is believed to have been ruled out, as it is already overused for major events.
A council spokeswoman said: "The Mela themselves find Pilrig Park too small now given their aspirations to expand the activities on offer, so it's absolutely their decision to start looking for a different, larger venue."
