Mammy! Allan's up for award over his portrayal of Al Jolson
PANTO favourite Allan Stewart has been nominated for a leading theatre award for his role in Jolson and Co. – The Musical.
The entertainer – a favourite with fans of the city's King's Theatre – toured the UK with the show to sell-out audiences and is now in the running for the Best Performance in a Musical award.
He said: "I'm very excited at the nomination because I'm sad to say that I started in the business at the age of ten and this the first time I have been nominated for any award. I have also been practising my crying in case I win."
Stewart started his career as a singer but soon turned his attention to comedy and television, starring in many series including Hello, Good Evening, Welcome and The Allan Stewart Tapes.
His national TV break came in the 1980s with Copy Cats, Live from the Palladium and many other high-profile guest spots.
The TMA Theatre and Management Awards are at the Lyric Hammersmith on 1 November.
