Macaulay remembers

PROUDLY wearing his grandfather's Glengarry hat, three-year-old Macaulay joined Richard Webster of the Cameronians to remember the war dead in Princes Street.

Macaulay, whose grandfather was in the King's Own Scottish Borderers regiment, was among the crowd who gathered at the Garden of Remembrance yesterday.

The city fell silent for two minutes at 11am to mark the 91st anniversary of the end of the First World War. This was marked by a gun fired from Edinburgh Castle.

Veterans and residents of the Erskine Edinburgh Home's Army Recovery Centre held a memorial service to lay wreaths and remember fallen colleagues.

A verse from Robert Laurence Binyon's war poem For The Fallen, was read by Royal Navy veteran Keith Taylor. Mr Taylor said: "Our thoughts also turn to those who are currently putting their lives on the line."
