Dead man had slept rough
A FOREIGN national who was found dead in an Aberdeenshire wood had been sleeping rough, it was revealed yesterday.
The body of the 41-year-old, believed to be a Lithuanian, was discovered on Thursday morning in an area of woodland off Blackhall Road in Inverurie. The cause of his "unexplained" death is still being investigated.
Detective Sergeant Kevin Goldie of Grampian Police said: "We're still trying to trace the family and make them aware. We don't yet know the cause of death."
He added: "I can confirm from our inquiries he was occasionally sleeping out, first in Westhill then in Inverurie."
Gurudeo Saluja, a Westhill councillor and chairman of Aberdeenshire Council's social work and housing committee, said he was shocked to hear of the death, which he described as "a tragedy".
