Scotsman staff scoop host of top press awards
STAFF from Scotsman Publications scooped a host of awards at the 31st Scottish Press Awards ceremony last night.
Nick Mitchell of scotsman.com won the Multimedia Journalist of the Year category. Mitchell was recognised partly for his work on music blog Radar, which showcases emerging and unsigned Scottish artists.
Mitchell's scotsman.com colleague Stephen Emerson was short-listed in the same category.
The Scotsman's Jane Barlow won the News Photographer of the Year award. Her photograph of First Minister Alex Salmond seemingly wearing a crown was among three outstanding works.
Scotland on Sunday's Tom English won Sports Feature Writer of the Year for the fourth year running and Catherine Deveney won Magazine Writer of the Year.
Scotland on Sunday's Brian Adcock was named Cartoonist of the Year with Frank Boyle of the Edinburgh Evening News runner up. Edinburgh Evening News reporter Victoria Raimes was awarded Young Journalist of the Year. The Edinburgh Evening News was runner up in the Journalist Team of the Year for its coverage of the trams controversy.
The Falkirk Herald, owned by Johnston Press, which also owns The Scotsman, was runner-up Weekly Newspaper of the Year.
