Scots biotech firm tackling chlamydia
AN EDINBURGH biotech firm is working with scientists in China to develop a vaccine against chlamydia, which can cause infertility in women and miscarriage.
Dr Jason Clark, principal research scientist at BigDNA, based in Roslin, is due to travel to Beijing this week, where he will deliver a presentation on new technology that allows vaccines to be developed faster and cheaper.
Dr Clark said: "We are developing our vaccination technology, initially for animal species but ultimately for use against human infections.
Our technology speeds up the process of producing the vaccines, reduces the costs of production, and allows vaccines in all species to potentially be delivered without the use of needles."
