Scots troops to Helmand

Around 350 Scottish soldiers are being sent to Afghanistan for a six-month operational tour.

The Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (2 SCOTS) will deploy as part of Task Force Helmand.

The Penicuik-based troops will advise and train the Afghan national security forces to prepare for the withdrawal of coalition troops. Commanding Officer Lt Col Robin Lindsay said: “We have a pivotal role”.
