Scots top UK food waste list
Scots admit to throwing away almost £500 worth of food every year, according to a supermarket survey out today.
Bread, bananas and salad are the items most regularly disposed of by shoppers.
Scots came off badly in the Waitrose survey, throwing groceries worth 460 away, higher than the average Briton who discards 400 of food.
Nearly nine out of ten (86 per cent) people admitted throwing food away at least a couple of times a week and only a third said they recycled food waste. Less than half of Scots (45 per cent) said they always recycled packaging - the lowest proportion in the UK.
