Scots teacher charged with raping boy during trip to France
A SCOTTISH teacher has been accused of raping a schoolboy during a holiday to France, it emerged yesterday.
David Wright is being held in custody as police launch an inquiry into his contact with children. Wright, 39, who is known by his middle name Kerr, was sacked from his post as principal pastoral care teacher at Cleveden Secondary School, in Glasgow.
Wright, who is facing two serious sexual assault charges against the youngster, also runs a children's judo club near his home in East Kilbride.
The a martial arts black belt was arrested by Metropolitan Police officers and questioned in London.
He appeared at London Crown Court on 15 April and was charged with raping a boy aged under 13 during a trip to Brittany.
Wright, a former captain of Glasgow University Judo Club, faces a second charge of sexual assault against the same boy.
A Crown Prosecution Service spokeswoman confirmed the offences were alleged to have happened between July and September last year. She added: "Mr Wright has not entered a plea yet. He appeared at London Crown Court on 15 April and was remanded in custody.
"A case management hearing will take place on 4 June. If a not guilty plea is entered, then the case will proceed to trial."
It is thought Wright is being held in London's Brixton jail ahead of his second crown court appearance next month.
Met detectives, who are leading the investigation, were called in because the youngster involved in the case – who has no links to the Glasgow school – made the complaint at a London police station.
