Scots fans good natured
In his letter regarding the concept of a separate Scottish Olympics squad, I was surprised to read Chris Green's views (Letters, 27 August) on the behaviour of the Scottish crowd at the Scotland v Italy match at Murrayfield last year.
I attended the game and experienced nothing but respect towards the Azzurri before, during and after the match. Indeed, my recollections are of a good-natured exchange of handshakes and sincere congratulations at full time, this being the occasion of the first Italian away win in the Six Nations. I witnessed no "derision or disrespect" towards any Italians present.
The "booing and cat-calling" Mr Green refers to was largely confined to the first seven minutes of the game, during which Scotland conceded three tries. I think he will find this bad natured behaviour was in fact directed towards the Scotland team and coaching staff who the Scottish fans felt badly let down by on the day.
