Scots Bishop in line for top England job

THE Bishop of Paisley is being tipped for the job of England's leading Catholic. Bishop Philip Tartaglia, right, is reported to be among the candidates to take over from Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor when he retires as the Archbishop of Westminster next year.

Tartaglia, 57, is considered to be one of the brightest up-and-coming bishops on the conservative wing of the church. Observers say the Pope would like to see a conservative candidate in the influential post.
