Scotland star to be added to hall of fame

DALKEITH-BORN football star Darren Fletcher is to be inducted into Midlothian Council's sporting hall of fame.

Fletcher, who has captained the Scotland squad four times, joins such names as Rosewell-born Eddie Thomson, who played for Hearts and Aberdeen and later managed Australia's national side, and judo world champion Graham Randall of Bonnyrigg.

A spokesperson for Midlothian Council said: "At its meeting on January 27 Midlothian Council considered a motion to congratulate Darren Fletcher on being part of the Manchester United team which recently won the World Club Championship."

In proposing the motion Provost Adam Montgomery detailed the career of Darren Fletcher, who grew up in Midlothian and attended St Luke's RC Primary School, Mayfield, and St David's RC High School in Dalkeith.
