FOR a moment he appeared to the proverbial lucky charm for a blushing bride on her big day.
But a chimney sweep wasn't the omen that appeared to help Angela Adams celebrate tying the knot – it was Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson.
Covered in soot and dressed in a boiler suit, he was among the first to congratulate Angela and new husband Mark McCole after they tied the knot.
The two doctors, who travelled from Oxfordshire to get married in Edinburgh, got more than they bargained for when they arrived at the Balmoral Hotel for their reception.
It coincided with filming of an episode of Top Gear, which saw Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond using different forms of transport in a three-way race from London to Edinburgh. Clarkson, who had been aboard a new steam locomotive, and May, who had been driving a Jaguar XK120, were unlikely "wedding crashers" on the steps of the hotel. Their fellow presenter Richard Hammond, missed the impromptu photocall after his vintage motorbike broke down on his journey.
Angela said: "Initially I thought Jeremy was a lucky chimney sweep, as he was wearing overalls and had his face blackened. They chatted to us and Clarkson told my husband to 'take my advice and lose the beard', which was rich coming from someone whose entire face was covered in soot!"
