AROUND 5000 people took to the streets of the capital this morning for the Bupa Great Edinburgh Run.
The ten-mile (16km) course took an extended route through the city centre from its start in Holyrood Park.
The race had previously been run over five and ten kilometre distances.
Organisers said that if the total distance covered by all the participants were added up, it would be almost equal running twice around the world.
Chris Thompson and Susan Partridge won the men’s and women’s elite races respectively.
