Slopes re-open to hardy skiers

Skiing returned to Scotland’s top snowsports resort yesterdayafter being closed by too much snow.

Staff at Cairngorm Mountain had to dig out a tunnel full of snow which had prevented the country’s highest mountain railway operating.

It was the first time in four days that snowsports could take place at Cairngorm Mountain after high winds – gusting up to 90mph – and drifting snow had shut the centre.

Yesterday, workers managed to dig out tonnes of snow from the mouth of the Ptarmigan mountain-top station allowing a few hardy skiers and snowboarders access. A spokesman said conditions were suitable for intermediate level.
