Sharp-shooting Peter Potts was feeling trigger happy yesterday when he was named the world’s top gun in video game Call of Duty – beating 4.5 million players to the title.

The 34-year-old Scot saw off rivals from around the globe to make it to the top of the XBox chart for “confirmed kills” – 180,871 – in the popular game.

The video-gaming father-of-five has been playing computer games since the age of nine, starting off on a Commodore 64 his dad bought him.

Known by his game name Scottish Gun 1, he began playing the latest edition of Call of Duty: Ghosts in December last year and quickly rose through the ranks.

By February he was in the top 100, before clinching the number one spot earlier this month.

Mr Potts, of Dalmuir, West Dunbartonshire, said: “As soon as I started playing it I noticed the skill level I had, I started climbing the ranks and was getting good at it quickly.

“I get to play it most at the weekends, if we are not busy I can sit on it a good part of the day.

“Usually I play it at night, till three or four in the morning sometimes, or maybe a couple of hours at dinner time – the most I have ever played it was between eight to ten hours.

“I never let it interfere with the kids though, and them getting to nursery and school and things like that.”

The leader board updates every minute of every day and Mr Potts remains at the top with more than 18,105,610 points.

The highest score before he clinched the spot was a mere 17.9 million points. The full-time father added: “You can probably count on the fingers of one hand the number of players around the world who play as quickly as me.

“A lot of people will stay in the same place during
the game but I never stop running.”

The Call of Duty series has sold more than 100 million copies worldwide.
