SANTAS in their thousands took to the streets of Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dumbarton for five-kilometre runs yesterday as part of an annual festive fundraiser.

Dressed in red costumes with beards, the crowds made their way through the cities for the Santa Dash with most raising money for a variety of charities.

Sam Harper and her dog Pablo were among those running through Edinburgh city centre, while more than 3,000 fundraisers of all ages gathered at George Square in Glasgow.

Alex and Brad McGuire, both 40, were walking with daughters Connie, seven, and Jessica, five, from Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire, to raise funds for a friend who had a quadruple amputation after septicaemia.

Ms McGuire told STV News: “We’re specifically hoping to raise some money to go towards a pair of bionic hands. It was an early start for us this morning, but it’s good fun and for a great cause.”
