Police are hunting a flasher who exposed himself to a young woman in broad daylight at an industrial estate.

The 21-year-old victim was walking through Eskmills Industrial Estate, Musselburgh, at about 11am on Wednesday when the pervert approached her.

He made a number of inappropriate remarks before exposing himself.

She fled the scene – which happened near the JobCentre – but did not see where he went.

Police are following a positive line of inquiry with regard to the incident but are still asking witnesses come forward.

Detective Constable Ian Campbell, the officer in charge of the inquiry, said: “While the man did not touch her at any point, this has been a terrible experience for the young woman involved, and she is understandably shaken as a result.

“She very upset by this incident and is being cared for by her family.

“The victim was approached when she was on her own, the suspect tried to engage her in conversation and when this failed, he began making inappropriate remarks before exposing himself to her.

“We are appealing for witnesses. The culprit is quite distinctive, having long hair that goes all the way down to his waist.

“Quite a lot of people would have been walking about at the time, there are a few businesses in the area and a Tesco nearby. It’s quite busy with traffic and pedestrians.”

The suspect is described as being white, slim, in his mid-20s, between 5ft 6-7in tall, with long dark straight hair down to his waist.

He was wearing brown or navy combat trousers, a black jumper and black boots.

DC Campbell added: “I’d like to provide reassurances that incidents like these are quite rare. There’s nothing to suggest that the culprit has been involved in another crime.”

Anyone with information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131-311 3131 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
