A CONVICTED attempted murderer who failed to return to an open prison after a home visit has been tracked down by police.

Michael McInnes, 23, was expected back at HMP Castle Huntly, near Dundee, last Wednesday.

A hunt was launched for the prisoner, who has been traced in the Bellshill area, North Lanarkshire.

McInnes absconded while serving a six-year sentence for attempted murder.

He is expected to appear at Perth Sheriff Court on Monday.
