A MASKED raider who terrified victims after invading their homes armed with a knife has been jailed for six years
Among those left traumatised by Scott Smith, 21, and his accomplices were a pregnant woman and a man with learning difficulties whose hand was slashed as he fought back.
Apprentice plumber Smith was caught because he dropped his mobile phone in a house in King’s Road and police were able to trace him. In court, he admitted assault and robbery.
Defence advocate Ronnie Renucci said Smith had taken to drink and drugs in an attempt to escape his depression. He was still able to hold down a job because he kept his binges to weekends.
Smith, formerly of Mountcastle Drive South, had been under the influence when he agreed to take part in the raids.
Jailing him, judge Lord Uist told Smith: “These crimes amount to lawlessness of the highest order, involving attacks on people in their own homes.”
