SAM Glass was sent to Carstairs after he pled guilty to the culpable homicide of a five-year-old girl.

Glass, now 64, took Jean Hamilton from her home in Glasgow’s east end to a railway tunnel between Dalmarnock and Bridgeton Cross.

He indecently assaulted and strangled the child. He was sent to Carstairs in September 1967 without limit of time.

James Ferguson, who raped and sexually maimed a succession of young girls in Glasgow, has been in Carstairs since 1969, having been sent there without limit of time.

His application to be moved to a less secure unit was turned down in 2007.

Bespectacled Clifford Lyons, 39, below, was sent to the state hospital in 1990 after he admitted raping a ten-year-old girl in Drumchapel, Glasgow.
