Scotland the talented… walkaway winner
FEW political satires have quite caught the foul-mouthed frenzy of the age or the capacity of today's political elite for catastrophic blunder than In the Loop. At the centre of this colliding world of spin doctors and their hapless political masters is the venomously aggressive communications supremo Malcolm Tucker, anti-hero of The Thick of It, played by Peter Capaldi. An ogre, most certainly, but too uncomfortably close to the real thing to be dismissed as total fiction.
So In the Loop was, to all intents and purposes, a walkaway winner
in this year's Scottish Bafta awards, having received triple nominations.
Capaldi took the award for Acting Performance in Film, the directing prize went to Armando Ianucci and writing in film went to the team of Armando Ianucci, Jesse Armstrong and Simon Blackwell.
This year's ceremony at the Glasgow Science Centre saw special recognition for Scotland's talent in the field of digital, with Scottish Enterprise sponsored awards going to Flock for best game, while best web was won by Blipfoto.com and interactive by Cybraphon.
The sheer volume of films, TV and games produced in Scotland this year has been impressive – a real testament to Scotland's burgeoning industry – and the evening brought out inspiring talent both in front of and behind the camera.
