Scotland's weather: Business leader calls for central response to crisis
Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce has called for the Scottish Government to create a centrally managed response to extreme weather conditions.
Managing director Graham Birse said the government should arrange for councils which have not been so badly hit to lend resources to those which have. "It's clear the current extreme weather has exposed weaknesses in the system."
A government spokesman said its Resilience Committee had met daily since the snow began falling last week.
"The committee works very closely with the eight Strategic Co-ordinating Groups across Scotland who have the lead role on dealing with issues at a local level, and includes organisations such as Cosla, Transport Scotland and the Met Office to ensure a fully co-ordinated response," he said.
