Scot held after farmer killed
POLICE have arrested a 49-year-old from Scotland after a farmer died in a road accident in County Durham yesterday.
The suspect, from Muirhead near Glasgow, was held on suspicion of death by dangerous driving after the victim was thrown from his tractor in a collision with a black Jaguar sports car.
The suspect was also questioned on suspicion of drink-driving after the crash on the A66 near Barnard Castle. The collision forced the tractor off the road, then involved two other cars – one of which subsequently went on fire – after the Jaguar spun.
Ray Handley, 71, of Bowes, was thrown from the seat of his vehicle through the back window.
