SKY+ users with Android devices can now take control of their TVs, months after iPhone users were allowed to do the same.
• Android app allows users to control box from tablet or phone
• App compatible with Android 2.2 and later
The new features, including the ability to rewind, pause, and change channels using the Android app, are available following an update.
The app is compatible with all Android phones or tablets running at least version 2.2 of the operating system. This covers most Android devices released in the last few years, and almost all devices currently on the market.
The new app also allows users to set reminders or record programmes, as well as view the schedule and organise recorded programmes.
There is some bad news for pranksters, as the app will only operate when connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the Sky+ box, preventing users from changing the channel from a remote location.
The good news for Sky customers follows difficult news for the company, as one of Rupert Murdoch’s biggest US rivals confirmed a deal to buy Sky’s main UK rival Virgin Media.
