Dark energy ‘could destroy the universe’

A DOOMSDAY timetable predicting what will happen to our universe, if “dark energy” runs amok, has been devised by
scientists.

The “big rip” theory – where dark energy destroys all in its path – would see the Earth be ripped from the Sun two months before the end of time. Five days before, the moon will be torn from the earth.

The Sun will be destroyed 28 minutes before the end of time and 16 minutes before the final curtain the Earth will explode.

The good news is, even in the worst case scenario, we have 16.7 billion years to say our goodbyes, said scientists from Peking University, in China.
