Clouds halt mission to fly Saltire in space
THE Nasa mission to take a Saltire from Edinburgh into space and back was delayed today due to bad weather.
The flag, which usually flies between the parliament and Holyrood Palace, was to spend 12 days in space on board the space shuttle Discovery with British astronaut Nick Patrick.
However, low clouds over the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida forced Nasa bosses to call off the launch, which had been scheduled for 2.35am (GMT), and strong winds could delay the lift-off for another one or two days.
Mr Patrick, 42, who has Scottish roots, was given the Saltire for his maiden space shuttle voyage by Careers Scotland.
