Schools displayed dangers of fireworks by production

A PLAY about the danger of fireworks is to tour 14 Edinburgh schools.

Toast was initially commissioned by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents in Northern Ireland, but has been adapted for Edinburgh by the Strange Theatre Company.

The play teaches children about the dangers of fireworks as well as issues like peer pressure, bullying and managing aggression.

It will tour around 14 schools including Leith Academy, Tynecastle High and Forrester High.

Councillor Robert Aldridge, the city's environment leader, said: "Guy Faulkes night is great fun. However, fireworks can be extremely dangerous if handled improperly. The play Toast is an excellent way of helping young people understand the risks and dangers of misusing fireworks. We will be carrying out test purchasing in shops where fireworks are on sale to make sure that retailers are adhering to the legislation."
