School praised for physical education take-up
A SCHOOL in a deprived area of the city has been praised for its commitment to physical education.
The Wester Hailes Education Centre is meeting Scottish Government targets on exercise provision ahead of schedule.
Lothians MSP and former GP Dr Ian McKee praised it for the impact it was having on pupils' lifestyle and overall health.
He said: "All S1 pupils receive two hours of quality PE, this figure rising to five hours in S4.
"Even in S5 and S6, when PE becomes optional, 64 per cent of pupils continue with classes."
