School guard after race jibe
A POLICE guard has been stationed at a city primary school after a passer-by hurled racist abuse at a pupil.
The incident happened at Preston Street Primary School on Dalkeith Road on Monday.
A stranger walking past the gate is reported to have sworn and called an 11-year-old Asian girl a racist name as she prepared to leave school.
The suspect then ran off before the girl could alert teachers.
A spokesman for Lothian and Borders police said: "The force treats all race-related crime extremely seriously, and we encourage victims to report any such incidents to the police as soon as possible, either directly or via a third party through our remote reporting scheme."
