Scaled-back Caltongate plan revealed
A NEW version of the controversial Caltongate development is set to be revived after a London firm was selected as preferred bidder for the site.
Allied London plans a new "commercial and government" quarter for the site, alongside a major new retail development, it was reported today.
The firm raised hopes of a reprieve for two listed buildings due to make way for a hotel and conference centre under the previous scheme, by hinting that elements of the project were likely to be scaled back.
The original 300m Caltongate plan sparked a high-profile protest campaign, international condemnation by Unesco inspectors and an investigation by the European Commission.
