Salmond sparks Kofi Annan row
FIRST Minister Alex Salmond was today said to be embroiled in a diplomatic row with former United Nations general secretary Kofi Annan.
It was sparked by Mr Salmond's claims that Mr Annan would be coming to Scotland later this year to deliver a lecture as part of the Homecoming celebrations in tribute to Robert Burns.
But Mr Annan's representatives in Britain were today quoted saying that while he will travel to Scotland this year, it is at the invitation of Prime Minister Gordon Brown to deliver a lecture on the economist Adam Smith.
His spokeswoman said: "There has been some misinformation and Mr Annan would appreciate a correction. We are irritated by this and it is a question of clarification."
