Salmond boosted by latest poll
A NEW opinion poll has suggested Alex Salmond will return as First Minister after the election.
The Ipsos Mori survey last night gave the SNP an 11-point lead over Labour in the constituency vote and a ten-point lead in the list vote. That would give the party 20 more seats than Labour.
The party said the poll was a promising sign, though sources were keen to play down the potential for a lead reaching into double figures.
The survey indicates the Liberal Democrats will see a dramatic drop in their support on 5 May. They would gain only 9 per cent of the constituency vote - a one-point drop from the last poll in February. Their support on the regional list fell two points.
Tory support fell three points - leaving the party with 10 per cent on both the constituency and regional list votes.
SNP campaign director Angus Robertson welcomed the poll but said: "We are taking nothing for granted."
