Safer snares

Louise Robertson (Letters, 11 May) can rest assured; the wildcat will be safe from snares. Following research and recommendations from the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust, the Scottish Government intends to make safety stops on snares a legal requirement. At a stroke this will overcome the problem that concerns her by ensuring snares can only hold animals they trap. Using snares without these essential and effective stops will rightly soon become illegal.
