Rwanda talks
UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon met Rwanda's president Paul Kagame yesterday after he threatened to withdraw peacekeepers if the UN publishes a report accusing his army of genocide.
The UN-African Union mission in Darfur is commanded by a Rwandan, Lt Gen Patrick Nyamvumba, and Rwanda has over 3,200 troops and 86 police in the nearly 22,000-strong force.
Ban Ki-moon asked Mr Kagame to send in his comments by the end of the month. The report's release has been delayed until 1 October. A draft leaked in August accuses Rwandan forces of slaughtering tens of thousands of Hutus in Congo two years after the 1994 genocide in which Hutus killed over 500,000.
