Runner will dedicate next race to gran
A LONG-distance runner who clocks more than 100 miles a week is to dedicate his next race in the city to the memory of his grandmother.
Stuart Christie helped Cancer Research UK launch its 10km run at Hopetoun House with a fantastic balloon display spelling out the distance.
The fitness enthusiast, 42, from Clermiston, said the death of his grandmother from cancer was the reason for getting involved with the organisation.
"Losing her was a huge blow to me," said the Edinburgh University employee. "I miss her every day and want to encourage as many people as possible to support Cancer Research UK and help other families who are coping with the disease."
He also appealed for others to take part in the Run 10K event on 27 September.
"All you need is a little training and the will to get around the course," he said. "It really doesn't matter if you run 100 miles a week like me, or you have never run before, the aim is to get out, have fun and raise money for a fantastic cause. With a little training anyone can do it – and you'll make yourself feel great."
