Selkirk-based chemicals firm RP Adam is flying high after its subsidiary Arpal Gulf won a £2 million contract to support the in-flight catering arm of Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi.

The five-year agreement involves providing laundry detergents as well as cleaning and disinfection products for the airline’s catering operation, serving up to 30 million passengers a year.

RP Adam marketing director Max Adam described the contract win as “significant” and said it comes as the airline is set for a “massive” increase in passenger numbers.

He added: “The win will provide a huge boost for our business, both across the Middle East and in the UK.”

The family-owned Scottish firm has been operating across the Middle East since launching in Saudi Arabia in 1976, with its Dubai offshoot launched in 1996. The new contract comes after the company recently won an extension of its deal with Young & Co’s Brewery as it targets turnover of £20m by 2020.
