Royal Mail launches Second World War stamps
A SCOTTISH former Land Girl has helped launch a set of commemorative Second World War Royal Mail stamps.
• Former Land Girl Mona McLeod, and Nicole O'Neill in Land Girl uniform, launch the new stamps
The first-class Land Girl stamp is one of set of eight in the series entitled Britain Alone, which celebrates the sacrifices made by British people after the Dunkirk evacuation.
The series also features civil defence organisations such as the Home Guard, as well as women who worked in factories, young evacuees, and wartime prime minister Sir Winston Churchill.
Mona McLeod, now 87, joined the Women's Land Army as a teenager in 1940 and worked on a dairy farm near Gatehouse of Fleet, Galloway, for five years.
A separate miniature sheet of four stamps marks the 70th anniversary of Dunkirk.
