Pupils learn of alcohol danger

POLICE visiting schools in the Lothians to educate teenagers about underage drinking are set to place greater emphasis on the dangers of alcohol- related crime.

The move forms part of the force's new young people and alcohol strategic framework, which was launched yesterday by Assistant Chief Constable Mike McCormick and Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill.

Parents seeking advice on discussing alcohol at home will be encouraged to speak with alcohol charity groups.

Meanwhile, police will work with youth organisations to identify key areas of concern relating to young people and alcohol.

Mr MacAskill said: "Prevention is better than any cure, so I welcome the emphasis that this framework puts on increasing alcohol and drug awareness."
