Rowling, comic-book superhero

HARRY Potter creator JK Rowling is to join Supergirl and Wonder Woman on comic-book shelves the world over.

The Edinburgh-based writer is to be immortalised a comic book biography charting her rise to fame. Her life story is being turned into a 23-page "biography comic" by a US publisher. It will include scenes in which she scribbles the first ideas for the Harry Potter series on napkins at a caf in the capital.

The book, which will be entitled Female Force – JK Rowling was announced this week by American comic firm Bluewater, which has also produced similar works about Oprah Winfrey and Michael Jackson.

The company says the book will chronicle the "rags-to-riches story of a woman receiving government financial assistance, through her ascendancy in becoming one of the world's most recognisable writers".

The president of Bluewater, Darren Davis, who is responsible for such titles as Judo Girl and Pistolfist, said that the Harry Potter creator was the perfect character for their "female force" series.

He said: "JK Rowling created a renaissance in children's and young adult literature. She inspires a legion of fans, and it will be fascinating to follow how many future writers will point to her work as their original source of inspiration."

Other characters in the "female force" series include US politicians Hilary Clinton, Sarah Palin and Condoleezza Rice.

The company plans to launch the 2.45 book in December, along with a 4.50 expanded "collector's edition".
