Robber gets three years for tying up and beating victim
A MAN who tied up his victim with rope and hit him with a bar in a robbery has been jailed for three years.
Sheriff Deirdre MacNeill QC yesterday told robber Paul Walker, 50, he had carried out a "premeditated" and "shocking" attack.
Walker, of Dunedin Street, Edinburgh, pleaded guilty last month to attacking Luke Sinclair while acting along with others on 19 October, 2006, at the address in Hawkhill Close, Edinburgh.
The men hit Mr Sinclair on the head and body with a bar and robbed him of 500. Mr Sinclair, who was left injured was tied up by his hands and feet with rope, threatened and also robbed of two passports and a mobile SIM card.
Defence agent Dianne Moore asked the sheriff to impose community service as Walker, a self-employed joiner, was at a low risk of re-offending.
She told Edinburgh Sheriff Court Walker had gone to the address with some other men and things had gone "far too far".
"He does appreciate the gravity of the offence and he is truly sorry for it," added Mrs Moore.
Jailing Walker Sheriff MacNeill said she had given serious consideration to the sentence but said she would have to impose custody.
