Richey 'unimpressed' with court's decision to deny bail
FORMER Death Row Scot Kenny Richey has had his latest bid for freedom turned down.
The 43-year-old has been in custody since earlier this month, when he was arrested and charged with an alleged assault on a 63-year-old man in July.
He appeared in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday asking to be released on bail, but Sheriff Nigel Morrison QC refused his request. Richey, who denies the allegation, will remain in custody until the case is heard later in the year.
His lawyer, Roy Harley, said Richey was "unimpressed" by the decision and plans to appeal to the High Court. Richey was freed from a US prison earlier this year after spending more than 20 years on Death Row.
