Richey gets trial date for assault charge

KENNY RICHEY, who is accused of seriously assaulting a 63-year-old man in the Capital, will face trial in March.

Richey, 44, made a brief appearance at the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday, where Judge Lord Kinclaven fixed March 2 in Paisley for the start of what is expected to be a five-day trial.

Richey has pleaded not guilty to barging into a flat in Edinburgh's Watson Crescent on July 11, assaulting and threatening 63-year-old Robert McCall and robbing him of cash and a mobile phone.

Richey further denies that on July 17, with his face masked, he went to the same flat and beat Mr McCall with a metal baton and kicked him, causing him to fall down stairs to the danger of his life.

It is also claimed that Richey persuaded a woman to wash blood-stained clothes in an attempt to cover up the attack, and threatened officials at Edinburgh Sheriff Court after his arrest.
