Rich pickings
REGARDING Gordon Brown's generous offer (your report, 28 November), on the taxpayer's behalf, of some £800 million to contribute to a multi-billion fund to help "poor" countries cut greenhouse gas emissions and offset global warming: are we still a "rich" nation though very deeply in debt?
Although the fashionable view supports an anthropogenic basis for climate change, underlying scientific controversy persists. Our national debts are, alas, incontrovertible fact.
Do these proposed expenditures just reflect, in reality, the politician's addiction to spending "other peoples'" money?
