Review launched into how city puts together annual budget

A REVIEW has been launched to investigate ways of improving how the city council draws up its annual budget.

The ruling Lib Dem/SNP administration passed its budget at a lengthy meeting last month, following weeks of negotiations.

All opposition groups also spent time with council officials drawing up complicated alternative budgets, which had no chance of being approved.

Labour councillor Paul Godzik and Green councillor Alison Johnstone, pictured right, both put forward motions at last week's council meeting. They called for wider community input next year.

In a separate motion, Councillor Gordon Mackenzie, the city's finance leader, said: "Following the comments of members at the budget meeting on February 21, the director of finance has begun a review of the budget process.

"Council agrees that the director's review should take into account the motions by Cllrs Johnstone and Godzik, and should report to the finance and resource committee for scrutiny."
