Restaurant review: Pickledgreen, Edinburgh
IT'S likely to be a venture Gordon Ramsay would give an approving nod to.
For the co-brains behind Pickledgreen – one of the city's newest and freshest eateries – used to work in the chef's kitchens, as well as those of Anton Edelmann at the Savoy Hotel in London.
It's a pretty impressive career for Edinburgh's Steve Brown, who has now teamed up with friend Mel Colmant, from Belgium, for their latest move.
Pickledgreen opened its doors on Rose Street last month as a "new, innovative and eco-friendly eatery", offering mouthwatering snacks, breakfasts, lunches and dinners, plus dine-out packs and outside catering.
The eatery itself is stylish and spacious, while the food is delicious and well priced.
Breakfast offerings include porridge with homemade jam, while for lunch, enjoy duck ham with sauce gribiche (4) or lamb with glazed turnips and Lothian honey (10). Dinner ranges from onion tart with spinach and blue cheese (4) to fresh Caithness crab with apple and ginger (6).
Customers can currently enjoy a two-course lunch for 7.50. Well worth a visit.
