Rescue after motorboat runs aground
A DRAMATIC lifeboat rescue was carried out on Edinburgh's waterfront yesterday after a motorboat ran aground on rocks.
The captain of the cabin cruiser raised the alarm around 1:40pm yesterday after running into trouble near Granton Harbour.
The outboard engine had been sheared from the boat and was wedged between rocks with its cables still attached to the boat, leaving the vessel trapped on the rocks.
A lifeboat crew based at South Queensferry managed to free the boat, which had been taking in water, from its engine by severing the cables.
The stricken boat and its skipper, Brian McDermid, were then towed to safety at Granton Harbour, where an ambulance was waiting to take Mr McDermid to hospital for treatment for hypothermia.
