Report out on hospital bug
A TEAM investigating a fatal outbreak of Clostridium difficile today publishes a follow-up report on infection control at a hospital.
The report comes six months after the team found "inadequate" controls at the Vale of Leven hospital, where the bug was linked to 18 deaths.
The original report – published last August – set out eight recommendations including the requirement for a follow-up. It found a lack of isolation facilitates at the hospital, in West Dunbartonshire. The report also found that patients were transferred between wards and to other hospitals during the outbreak.
The infection was the primary cause of death in nine patients, and was also a contributory factor in another nine.
